A SPACE TO UNDERSTAND YOUR BIRTH

A little clarity.
At your own pace.

When birth takes an unexpected turn, there can be a lot to take in. Make space to understand the moments, the words, and the questions that stay with you.

Six days · Detailed fictional record · Clear explanations

THE EXAMPLE WE’LL EXPLORE
SIX DAYS · INDUCTION, VAGINAL BIRTH & PPH

Maya’s birth at Barnet.

Meet Maya Thompson and her baby Lily. Follow induction, augmentation, vaginal birth, a major bleed and recovery. Review the timed observations, medicines, emergency roles, feeds, sleep and handovers.

Fictional family and staff · real sources

MAKE SENSE OF THE MOMENTS

A birth, one moment at a time.

Read. Reflect. Ask.

This is a fictional example. All six days, staff, observations, drug doses and outcomes are invented. This is a demonstration record, not an actual medical record or prescribing guide. A single coherent treatment pathway is shown; real care varies and requires clinical review.

YOUR CARE TEAM, YOUR VOICE

What would you like to do?

You can express appreciation, ask for an explanation or raise a concern. Choose what feels right for you.

Thank your care team

If you would like to recognise someone who helped you, Royal Free London publishes official options for praising staff and teams, including at Barnet Hospital.

For real care only. All names in Maya’s story are fictional; please do not send a real hospital a message about these invented people.

Shows the contact details here first. You choose whether to open the hospital page or contact the hospital.

I have a question or concern about my care

For an explanation of your birth, ask your maternity team about a birth-reflection conversation. You can use the saved questions from this demo to prepare.

For help contacting a hospital service or raising a concern, the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) explains the available routes. PALS does not provide detailed medical explanations or diagnoses.

UNDERSTANDING CAN COME LATER

There is space for your questions.

You don’t have to understand everything straight away. A birth debrief is a chance to talk through what happened with your clinical team, at a time that feels right for you.

About this concept demo

What Happened to Me is a maternity debrief concept being developed by Joy and Miguel. This prototype demonstrates a six-day sample record, full clinical entries, medicines chart, emergency team roles, feeding/rest/toilet records, a question helper and a question list. All events are invented. It does not read real medical records, make diagnoses, assess symptoms, or contact a care team.

If you need help with a current health concern, contact your maternity team or an appropriate urgent care service rather than using this demo.

Sources behind the general explanations

General information was checked against the sources below on 13 October 2026. The fictional story is illustrative and is not endorsed by the NHS or NICE. Clinical review is needed before real patient use.

What happens to my questions?

Your questions are held only in this browser tab’s memory. The prototype does not upload or store them on a server. They disappear when you refresh or close the page, or start a fresh example. Download a copy if you want to keep them. The question helper uses prepared, source-backed medical definitions and explanations alongside the fictional record. General information is shown separately from record facts. It is not a live AI clinician or live web search. No analytics, tracking, or record uploads are included.
